Note: Doclab is an alternative film and documentary organization in Hanoi established by artist Nguyen Trinh Thi in 2009. While artists and filmmakers confronting the strict censorship and other institutionalized restrictions in this socialist country, Doclab is mostly about creating vitality without resources from the government. This article was written by Au Sow-Yee integrating also her own observations and thinking, after several occasions in 2014 either seeing Nguyen Trinh Thi’s works or meeting the artist in person.
