Visualization of Psychic Reality and Motivation: the Image and Shadow in The Photographer
心理現實與動機的視覺化:〈攝影師〉的影子與影像問題

Note: In early December, Sun Shangchi presented, in Playhouse of the National Taichung Theater, the piece "The Photographer", which was blueprinted from the anecdote of the motion-picture pioneer Eadweard Muybridge. The dance piece was accompanied by Phillip Glass's music, and it was adapted from Rob Malash's script by Sun Shangchi at the invitation of Ensemble KNM Berlin. The piece was divided into three scenes. The first scene started with Muybridge finding Harry and shotting him. The second act combined music and projection, accompanied by Muybridge's motion pictures, showing images of a woman walking downstairs, a running horse, some other animals, and a spinning dancer that were shot by Muybridge himself. The third scene returned to the three dancers moving in relatively much slower motion; scattered away from one another in the space and exposed to the intense light, the dancers' shadows layered on the wall projection in varying sizes.
